" Hi. My name is James Russell Rune; I was born on November 15th, making me seventeen years old right now. I’m a junior in high school and the running back for the football team, the point guard for the basketball team, a member of the Glee club, a member of the Anime Club, and a member of the track team. I keep myself involved in as many sports and clubs as I can possibly handle because I hate being at home, but I’ll get to that later. I’m gay, there’s no running around in circles about it and no secret about it either. I’m not in the closet, but my brother and his friends seem to deny that I am and try to set me up with girls all the time. I hate it, but that’s just how they are, you get used to them. I’m that awkward jock that gets shoved over and dragged around everywhere. A lot of the girls (not the popular ones) seem to take a liking in me… but I just like making friends with them. My best friend is a girl, which is probably a good thing – she is Kaylee Deleon, the glee captain.

I’m a really good guy, I think. I hate making people sad, it makes me sad. Bullies are one thing that I really can’t stand, but somehow I always end up looking like a bad guy. I try to reach out to people that are more like me, but that normally gets me in trouble with my brother and his friends because they don’t want to be associated with a loser, especially a gay one. They’re all really intolerant to homosexuality, but I try to ignore it because I know it’s high school and eventually, I’ll be successful and they’ll be over-using mommy and daddy’s money and soon enough on the streets. It’s a harsh way to look at it, but that’s how I do. I’d never say it out loud though; I’m too much of a wimp. I can’t to stand up for myself, but I wish I could. I’m really weird. I don’t know how I ended up in the jock route, because I don’t fit the job description. I sing and dance, do impressions of different people, and have a big imagination. I’m a decent human being, make stupid jokes, and am always on a mental high.

I’ve always lived here in Virginia Beach, in the same house too. It’s like a freaking mansion, which you wouldn’t be surprised of, because my parents are filthy rich. My mom is my favorite of the two, without question. She’s really nice to me… and doesn’t hit me, like my dad does. No one believes me, and I don’t want to tell my mom because she’s so in love with him, it’d crush her. My dad doesn’t like it when I eat in the house, so I always pretend I’m studying, and I guess my dad just doesn’t notice my mom bringing my food up and she doesn’t suspect a thing. Whenever she’s out of the house – which is most of the time because she works full time and my dad is a stay at home novelist – he beats me, and beats me, and it feels like it’s whenever he sees me. I don’t know what I did wrong. Maybe it’s because I’m gay and he knows it, but I just can’t see that being the only reason. Maybe it’s my fault too, but that doesn’t make sense either… I’m a straight A student that’s involved in a bunch of activities. Hopefully he’ll stop one day, because I can’t lie forever. Nobody knows right now, except maybe my sister. I tried to tell Benny but he called me a liar when I said he hit me once, and I just didn’t even try to tell him again. I’ll be in the hospital before he believes it, honestly.

My room is the only place I feel safe. It has all my guitars in it, my pictures, my stuffed animals, my video games, my books… everything. I love it. My bed is so comfortable. So, I like to play football the least, but I do it anyway because my dad would get really mad if I stopped before I graduated high school. Basketball is my favorite sport because it’s the one I’m best at, and a lot of the guys on that team aren’t half as mean. Sure, they’re jerks, but they’re at least… kind of decent, and don’t bother me as much. I like anime a lot, and music, so that’s why I’m in anime and glee club. I’m on the track team because it helps me in both the sports I play, because they involve a lot of running around. "
