Kaylee had mixed feelings right now, she was both happy and sad at the same time. Alex wasn’t speaking to her, in fact their friendship was declared over during the weekend. Kaylee didn’t want to lose Alex as a best friend but she knew it was going to come to this. What did she expect? A pat on the back and a ‘it’s alright buddy!’. Kaylee had stolen Alex’s boyfriend and was seeing him behind her back for several months. She couldn’t help it though; they sort of accidently fell in love. He was meant to be hers ,it was mean thought to think but it’s how Kaylee secretly felt. She and Vincent just complimented one another, and they worked so well together, which is actually why she was happy. the two were finally official and open, kaylee was now allowed to call him her boyfriend. No more secret hookups or meetings, they could touch each other whenever they wanted. Sure, they’d get tons of disappointed and shocked looks at school, but at least she’d have Vince by her side, right? She wasn’t prepared for school today, it was going to be the first day back since everyone probably found out. She had no idea what to expect and that frightened her. What if she couldn’t handle it? What if she lost more friends? What if Alex physically attacked her? So many questions swarmed through her mind, the possibilities of today’s outcome were endless.
Kaylee went to school with her older brother as usual, wearing dark blue skinny jeans, a black and white ‘jagk’ tshirt, and one of Vincent’s sweaters. She wore his sweater for the comfort, almost as If it would protect her from all of the dirty looks. She knew that some of the day, she wouldn’t see him, so she wanted a piece of him with her at all times. Her black bag with mini skulls on it was hanging over her shoulder as she walked down the school’s hallway. She was already starting to get looks from students, fuck, she wasn’t going to be able to handle this. She made her way to her locker and opened it, putting her bag in. the inside of her locker contained a picture of her, Alex, and Vince, the picture caught her eye immediately and she bit her lip as she reached up and grabbed it, staring at it. It was her favorite picture of all of them, they all looked so happy. Kaylee had remembered the day the photo was taken too, it was before she and Vince happened. In fact, at that moment Alex and Vince were in the “honeymoon” phase, you could tell too, their fingers were laced together so tightly in the photo. Kaylee was leaned over Alex making a goofy face at the camera. Boy, was life just simpler back then?
Kaylee was lost in the memory of that day, as she continued to stare at the photo, before she knew it the picture was snatched out of her hand. A shocked expression on her face as she saw none other than Alex stomping away with the photo on her hand, she then ripped it and threw it in the neared trashcan never looking back at Kaylee. Kaylee looked around as she noticed some students saw the silent incident, they were either laughing or shaking their head in Kaylee’s direction. Kaylee blinked and looked away, she felt so embarrassed, and that was rare for a girl like her. She slammed her locker shut, not bothering with grabbing any books, zipping up her hoodie, then bringing the wrist part of the sweater up to her nose and inhaled Vincent’s familiar scent. She needed one of his hugs right now, a nice long one at that. But she wouldn’t see him til next period, she had her second with both he and Alex. She walked slowly into her first class, and sunk into her seat. She wasn’t raising her hand as usual, instead she wa staring out of the window. She wanted to text Vincent but she’d see him in just a few minutes, so she didn’t.
The bell finally rang, releasing the students from their first class. Before she could walk out, Mr. Medina stopped her asking her if she was alright. She gave an unconvincing nod, but he didn’t push it, he just told her that he was there for her if she needed him to be. Kaylee nodded, Mr. Medina was always the coolest teacher to everyone, and Vince spoke highly of him so she was definitely thankful for his concern, but he couldn’t exactly fix her mess. Kaylee walked away and started down the hallway, more whispers coming her way. She almost wanted to cry but before her tears could fill her eyelids she saw Vincent. She practically launched herself at him, wrapping her arms around his torso tightly. She dug her face into his shoulder, ”I can’t be here, I can’t do this”, she mumbled into his shoulder. She wasn’t sure if he even understood her so after the tight hug, she looked up at him, ”I don’t want to be here right now… everyone keeps giving me these dirty looks…”, she whispered to him with hurt in her expression. ”I think I’m just going to call Kaleb and make him take me home…”, she said with a tear sliding down her cheek.

Vincent had been unpopular from the beginning of time, he knew that wasn’t going to change, but he was never hated so massively before. People walked by him the in hallways shooting numerous glares in his general direction, and some people shoved him when they walked by him even more than normal. This time, it was random girls instead of the football team jocks! He had seen them hanging out with Alex before, and he assumed that they were taking her side, because honestly… he didn’t know of anyone other than James who was on their side, and Vincent didn’t even like that kid. This whole situation was hard on the both of them, Kaylee and Vincent, but he knew that his now open girlfriend was suffering way more than he was. Vincent was a nerd before now, nobody paid attention to him, and this honestly wasn’t a big change. It hurt a little bit to be hated within the entire junior grade, but he would eventually get over it, probably within a couple of days. It wasn’t anyone’s business besides Kaylee’s and his own. But he knew high school didn’t work like that. Kaylee got it worse by far.
He hated thinking about what she was going through as he sat through one of his morning classes, Science. He wanted to talk to Mr. Medina today, but he figured it could wait for tomorrow, because he had promised Kaylee that they could ditch if things were getting rough for her. She was like a fallen social butterfly today, and he couldn’t leave her alone, now could he? What kind of boyfriend would do that to his girlfriend? Especially after going through so much trouble to be with her. He tapped impatiently on the lightly colored wood on his desk, his eyes glued to the clock that ticked second by hour. He sighed impatiently and closed his binder, unwilling to do the rest of the day’s work. He knew exactly what the classwork was about, he could just complete it along with his homework in the night time because that teacher checked for homework and previous classwork at the same time. Vincent laid his head down on the desk, ignoring the bickering and taunting of other kids in the classroom behind him. He was in the back row today, which was unusual, but this just wasn’t a day to bring attention to himself.
Vincent’s head popped up at the sound of the faint bell, it only sounded loudly to those in the hallway. The teacher said his parting words before opening the door that released the class, sending them wildly into the hallway. Vincent stood back and went out the door somewhere behind the crowd, hoping not to be trampled if he went along with them, or ahead of anyone. He ducked out of the classroom and looked around the hallways, his eyes in search of a specific little lady, and it was obvious who. He was looking in the wrong direction, though, and found himself hugging her out of the blue. He looked down at her and kissed her head when she hugged him, looking down at her with concern on his face when she pulled away and started talking to him. He shook his head, “No, no… hey. Let’s get out of here.” He said quietly, ignoring any gazes from bypassers. A couple of people scoffed and rolled their eyes at them, but he looked determined and focused on only Kaylee, the love of his life. He pulled the hood up onto her head and did the same for him, taking her hand and leading her through the crowd, and soon enough out the doors. He didn’t stop, having her hand and staying close to her as they walked, “There’s no reason in hell that you should have to go through that. Let’s head to the park, yeah?” He said as he looked down at her, the two parting from the parking lot and on the sidewalk.

Having his slightly muscular arms around her definitely helped a little; she always felt much safer in his arms. She knew he was probably getting crap from other students too, especially since most people knew Alex, and knew how sweet and generous of a person she was. Vincent was probably looked at as some sort of asshole or two-timing pig, but it’d all blow over soon, right? at least kaylee hoped it would, it had to. She was a good person damn it and so was Vincent, sure, maybe their previous actions had probably proved different, but still. kaylee nodded obediently at Vince, giving a weak smile when he put her hood on. He was so cute. Not only in his looks either, but some of his actions were just so thoughtful. She took his hand the couple walked through the crowded hallway and out the doors. They got plenty of disgusted looks from passing students, but she kept her head down as they walked.
As soon as they were free from their fellow students, she felt a heavy wave of relief come over her. She slowly laced her fingers with his and leaned her head in his shoulder as they walked. She was definitely glad that he had decided to leave with her. she knew they had talked about leaving over the weekend but she knew how iffy and paranoid he got when he was skipping even just one class, so she’d figure she’d spare him the paranoia and just ask her brother to take her home. but no, Vincent stayed true to his word. he was already being the best boyfriend and support system and that just made all of this even more worth it. she couldn’t ask for a better boyfriend. eep, there was that word again, she still couldn’t believe she could call him that now. he was all hers and vice versa.
The couple walked along the side walk in silence, but then kaylee looked up at him. ”thank you”, she said softly, ”I wouldn’t have been able to do this without you,” she said rubbing her thumb lightly against his skin as they held h ands, ”You’ve just been….great”, she said sincerely as she brought their hands to her mouth and planted a soft kiss on his hand. she looked at the ground as their hands went back down, ”how’s your day going? Is it just as bad as mines?”, she asked sadly. She ran her fingers through her brown hair using her free hand, ”I saw her today…”, she stated not wanting to say her name. it only hurt more when she did. she missed alex…a lot. they had been best friends since before they even wore training bra’s. ”it’s actually why I ran to find you…”, she sniffled as tears were going to start falling.

It took a lot to be a man, and sometimes Vincent was positive he was incapable of being one. He never forgave himself for sleeping with Alex; one, because it was done in jealousy, two, it hurt both of the girls that he’s ever cared for; more importantly, the girl that he’s totally and completely in love with, Kaylee Deleon. There was something in Kaylee that separated her from every other girl that he had ever laid a hand on, but Vincent could never place his finger on it exactly. He chose not to stress himself over figuring out exactly what it was that made him so in love with her, because all that was important was the love itself. Of course, it’d be a little awkward when he couldn’t put into words why he loves her when that general question of ‘why do you love me’ that comes up in every relationship, well, comes. He hoped it would be a day far from now, because he couldn’t place his undying love into words quite yet. Maybe someday when he matured more, hopefully along the side of Kaylee, he would be able to, and he would do just that.
Vincent gave Kaylee’s hand a squeeze and walked closely to her as the couple approached a long road that eventually led to the park, the two walking in similar motion down the pavement. He looked down at her sadly and watched her face carefully, trying to tell if she was doing okay or not. He knew in his heart that it would be a long, long time before Kaylee would be herself again but there was no reason that he couldn’t be a good support system. Hell, he was doing all he could to be the best he could offer to her, it was what she deserved, with the shit she got because of this. He was a pig to most people now, but that’s just the thing, he didn’t have millions of friends that he was perky and happy with. It didn’t change his daily life like it changed Kaylee’s. It made it harder for him to make friends, but in all honesty, he was too awkward to do that on his own beforehand… and for Kaylee, this was worth it regardless of his inability to make friends on his own. Now it was just guaranteed that until it blew over, people would ignore him or give him the stinky eye. No harm done, on his end.
Kaylee however, he could see the hurt and pain in her eyes as she talked to him, and he bit his lip as he listened to her talk, thinking that of course she couldn’t do this without him… she wouldn’t have to do this, if he weren’t around. If he weren’t there to tempt her into ruining her reputation. The love was worth it in the end, but he couldn’t help feeling guilty every now and again for ruining her social life for a long, long time. He kissed her cheek gently and said, “Anything for you, baby,” in a gentle voice. It was almost an immediate reaction to wipe her tear with his thumb when he saw it, as well as cooing gently in hopes to make her feel better. “Hey… hey. I’m here now. and she’s gone. Don’t think about her. we don’t need her. you don't need her. don't let her get to you, kayls..”

Kaylee used to love going to school, she actually looked forward to it. Sure, she skipped classes once in awhile, but she never left the campus. She loved hanging out with everyone, she was a social butterfly so she knew almost everyone. She wasn’t a part of the “popular” crowd, but almost everyone knew who she was. She loved meeting new people and getting to know things about them. She loved saying hello to everyone as she walked down the hall or walked into a classroom. But now? People gave her puzzled and disgusted looks. No one thought that Kaylee was capable of doing such a horrible thing to her best friend, but what they didn’t understand was that it happened on accident. She couldn’t help but love this boy. Was it really her fault that the love of her life was dating her best friend? No one understood it. No one cared to even try to either. And Kaylee didn’t have the power in her to defend herself, especially since she knew she was in the wrong here. She had hurt her bestest girl friend in the entire world. But she was thankful that her other bestfriend, James supported her through it all. She couldn’t even imagine what it would have been like without him. and with this incredible boyfriend either.
His soft kiss on her cheek, brought a light smile to her face. all of kisses usually did, especially ones that were in public. It made her feel so special that he loved her as much as she loved him. he wiped away the first tear that managed to slide down her cheek, he really was great. She nodded, knowing he was right. They had arrived at the park and there was a shady tree all alone. Kaylee looked at Vince, ”you’re right...”, she just felt guilty and it sucked. She sat down on the ground and grabbed his hand, pulling him down with her. When he was down beside her she laid her head on his shoulder and sighed, she just wanted this day to be over. She had to admit, it was nice to be out of school though, being out was definitely helping. She looked up at him and kissed him on the nose, then fell back onto the grass, staring up at the sky, ”lay with me”, she demanded calmly, placing her hands on her stomach.
